Job Summary:

The Control System Engineer is responsible for design, development, testing, and deployment of Cadenza Innovations Inc.’s Li-ion battery systems by working and coordination with the different teams.

This includes but not limited to developing power control management systems, conceptual architecture, schematics, PCB layout, component and systems testing and integration.

The successful candidate has a very strong technical experience in network communication like Mod Bus Can Bus etc., and system integrations which requires the Assisting Electrical Engineer. The candidate will be engaged from the prototype phase all through complete product launch. The candidate will from time to time be required to work in the field and visit sites for purposes of installation & commissioning of battery systems. The position is full time and hands-on in nature out of Cadenza’s Danbury, CT office and laboratories.  Cadenza provides a safe work environment with some ability to flexible hours with regards to end and start of the day. Responsibilities:

  • Electrical systems design – Knowledge of AC/DC system, from battery cell to inverter-based systems and utility interconnect. Assisting in preparation/reviewing of electrical drawings. Knowledge of numerical relays & communication (like-Modbus/Canbus etc.), SCADA & PLC programming.
  • Control systems interface – Design integration of energy storage system with BMS systems, PLCs, inverters, contactors, and other commercial control systems.
  • System Architecture – Conceptual design and engineering validation of proposed energy storage systems. Strong understanding of energy storage, inverters, transformers, DC converters, PV arrays and other industry standard components.
  • Leadership and Communication – Ability to work with team that can deliver high quality results and cost-effective solutions in a timely manner.  Compose documentation, written communications and deliver technical presentations.
  • Willing to travel <10%.
  • Experience & knowledge of protocols including CAN, Modbus, IO Link
  • Obtaining listings and regulatory approvals such as UL, CE, etc.
  • Provide technical direction in troubleshooting, debugging, failure analysis, root cause, and corrective action processes
  • Partner with other internal/external departments and customers to provide support, understand program/project requirements
  • May be assigned additional projects and responsibilities at the sole discretion of the Engineering Manager
  • Researching, simulating, analyzing, and designing both analog and digital electrical circuits
  • Lead, participate and collaborate in multi-functional product design reviews
  • Comprehensive documentation responsibility for all electrical designs including schematics, BOM, assembly drawings, design validation plan and report.
  • Familiarities with PLC and PLC programming techniques.
  • Knowledge of Protocol Standards for Wired and Wireless Communications.

Primary Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical or related Engineering from an accredited institution with 4+ years of experience or M.S. in Electrical or related Engineering with 2+ years’ experience is desirable.
  • 4+ years hands-on work experience in design, development, and manufacture of engineered products. Prior battery energy storage design experience is highly desirable.
  • Advanced experience with electrical schematic and layout software such as Altium, OrCAD, NI Multisim/Ultiboard etc.
  • Hands-on experience in building, integrating, test and troubleshoot electrical hardware, including embedded systems, wiring harnesses, interconnection, similar.
  • Demonstrated design and release experience, with disciplined change management.
  • Demonstrated experience with FMEA methods.
  • Experience with industry standards and government regulations and codes as it pertains to safety, EMI, ESD, NEC, NFPA, UL CSA etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in building program plans, system architecture specifications, program action lists with ownership to deliver on time, on budget, on quality.
  • Works well in a team-oriented start-up environment with minimal structure, takes initiative and ownership in achieving goals.
  • Effective composition, documentation, and presentation skills required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required; position requires interaction in a multi-functional team environment.
