We are advancing our commitment to green energy solutions by partnering with Cadenza Innovation , a woman-led business, to provide safe, high-performing, low-cost lithium-ion batteries. They are available via Turtle Energy Storage Services (TESS).
A Leader in Safety
Cadenza’s supercell represents the industry’s best in safety. It is UL9540A tested and verified, confirming that Cadenza’s patented design precludes the fire and explosion safety hazards associated with propagating thermal runaway which hampers other Li-ion batteries. U.S. Department of Defense testing further validated this safety differentiator.
In UL9540A testing, the Cadenza supercell did not exhibit cell-to-cell fire propagation. In addition, the volume of flammable gases was significantly reduced – essentially negligible. As such, energy storage solutions powered by Cadenza’s batteries do not have to rely on costly fire mitigation equipment, such as expensive detection and industrial-grade extinguishing or venting, to ensure safety. This directly translates into savings by reducing project costs.
Cadenza’s UL9540A testing results underscore its supercell as a compelling, straightforward solution for safe, grid-scale energy storage system installations, especially when deployed in densely populated, urban areas where space is limited. This is especially critical as systems become increasingly larger and safety and cost savings are priorities. The supercell’s unique design also helps reduce the balance of system costs which, in turn, paves the way for more cost-effective energy storage installations.
Supporting Diversity Businesses
What also makes Cadenza unique is that it is founded and operated by a woman — CEO Christina Lampe-Onnerud , one of the world’s pre-eminent battery experts with more than 125 patents.
She is the former founder, international chairman and CEO of Boston-Power, and previous chairwoman of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Energy Technologies. Lampe-Onnerud founded Cadenza in 2012. The award-winning company is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, the states of New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts, Golden Seeds and private investors.
Upcoming Podcast Guest
This partnership also supports Turtle’s ESG commitment to grow our diversity supply base by 20% in 2022 and spend by 10% from our 2021 baseline. As our newest diversity partner, Lampe-Onnerud will participate in our December episode of The Power of Partnerships podcast in a sit-down with Turtle CEO Kathleen Shanahan. The two will discuss the strength of diversity partnerships, the future of green solutions, and the Cadenza technology breakthroughs. You can find it on your favorite podcast platform – Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and more, available starting on Wednesday, December 1.
We welcome Cadenza as one of our premier partners as we engineer unique approaches to customer projects for more sustainable outcomes. If you are interested in learning more about TESS, fill out the form below or contact Ken McCauley, Executive Vice President at Ken.McCauley@turtle.com.
